Comprehensive Guide to Titas Gas Field: History, Operations, and Contact Information.

Brief Overview of the Company

Bangladesh Gas Fields Company Limited (BGFCL) is the largest state-owned natural gas production company in Bangladesh. This prominent organization supplies natural gas to the transmission system through pipelines, ensuring the quality of the gas. BGFCL contributes approximately 22% of the country’s total natural gas production. The condensate, a by-product of gas production, is sold to Aqua Refinery Limited and Super Petrochemical Limited. Every year, BGFCL contributes a significant amount of revenue to the national treasury.

Currently, BGFCL operates six gas fields: Titas, Habiganj, Bakhrabad, Narsingdi, Meghna, and Kamta. Among these, five fields—Titas, Habiganj, Bakhrabad, Narsingdi, and Meghna—are currently in production. Gas production from the Kamta field has been suspended due to excessive water production. Following the closure of the Sangu gas field operated by the International Oil Company Santos, Petrobangla assigned BGFCL the responsibility of managing the facilities at the Silimpur plant in Chattogram.

Gas Fields Under BGFCL:

  1. Titas Gas Field
  2. Habiganj Gas Field
  3. Bakhrabad Gas Field
  4. Narsingdi Gas Field
  5. Meghna Field
  6. Kamta Field

Titas Gas Field Overview

The Titas Gas Field is located approximately 100 kilometers northeast of Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, and is situated in the Brahmanbaria district headquarters. It was discovered in 1962 by the Pakistan Shell Oil Company. The field’s structure spans approximately 19x10 square kilometers in a north-south asymmetrical anticline with a vertical closure of 500 meters.

According to Petrobangla's latest reassessment, the total recoverable gas reserves of the Titas Gas Field amount to 7,342.10 billion cubic feet (BCF). Commercial gas production from this field commenced in 1968. As of November 30, 2024, the field has produced a cumulative total of 5,527.293 billion cubic feet, which represents 72.90% of the total reserves.

Well Details

The Titas Gas Field consists of 27 wells, of which 9 are vertical and the remaining 18 are directional wells. These wells are spread across nine different locations over a stretch of 11 kilometers.

In November 2024, gas production from 23 active wells averaged 360.74 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD). The gas is processed through:

  • 10 glycol dehydration units,
  • 4 low-temperature separators (LTS), and
  • 2 low-temperature separators integrated with glycol dehydration process plants.

The processed gas is supplied to the Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited (TGTDCL) and the Gas Transmission Company Limited (GTCL) via transmission pipelines.

Condensate Production

In November 2024, the field also produced an average of 334.90 barrels of condensate per day as a by-product. The gas-to-condensate ratio during this period was 0.928 barrels per million cubic feet, while the water-to-gas ratio stood at 0.940 barrels per million cubic feet.

Booster Compressor System

To enhance gas pressure in the sales pipeline, three booster compressors were installed at Titas Gas Field, Location-C. Each compressor has a compression capacity of 30 million cubic feet per day. Out of these three compressors, two are operational while the third serves as a standby unit.
